Growing up in Coastal New England, you fall in love with the history, the ocean, the people and your surroundings, highlighted in the summer with clam and lobster bakes or boils by the beach. My love for community, family and friends was ingrained early here and after migrating to Virginia for college, I never forgot how incredible that all was. It was there where I saw an interesting parallel in life. BBQ to the South was so very similar to the way we grew up here in Rhode Island. BBQ brought family together. Friends, neighbors, clubs, strangers, colleagues, teams would all come together to rally around BBQ just like we did here with our life on the water.
After college and many a BBQ pilgrimage of the South I never thought this would be anything more than a hobby but that hobby turned reality and before I knew it, Preppy Pig BBQ was in the works! This easy, low and slow lifestyle had barely crossed into the uncharted New England waters and it became my dream and goal to change that for good. With a push from my father and some amazing friends here in Rhode Island, I welcomed the first of many custom BBQ smokers and the first Preppy Pig BBQ party set the tone for the future.
With a life full of experiences and a career built on networking this hobby soon turned into a full-scale business. Cooking up BBQ on a regular basis from Nantucket to Newport, Maine to Greenwich and all points in between this idea has become a New England pastime and an absolute way of life, just like I experienced as a child but this time BBQ was the cuisine choice and Preppy Pig was on the map.
